Finally S'more Cards

Sunday, June 30, 2013

Well, I live near Las Vegas, right in the middle of this awful heat wave.  It's already 113 degrees at 10 am, so I'm staying inside with a/c.  So, card making is the perfect summer entertainment for me.

I got out my S'mores stamp set from Jaded Blossom and whipped out a bunch of cards. All too often, I see a set I have to have, make one card, then the set disappears into my stash forever!

I especially like that this stamp set has so many sentiments, only some of which are used here.

There are others which can be used if you make s'more pops or kits as gifts, for winter/holiday cards, for teachers, a "keep calm" and others.  I love sets that are versatile like this one!

Post-Vacation Blahs!

Monday, June 24, 2013

I haven't dropped off the face of the earth!  I've been on vacation the past couple weeks, with no crafting and almost no internet.  Today, I finally had a chance to try to get back into stamping mode, but only got one card done.

The creative feeling just wasn't there yet.  I'm pleading temporary mental disability, because I took a very nasty fall and hit my head while on the vacation cruise.  (It still hurts and I have daily headaches and neck pain.)  I've browsed the web this afternoon for inspiration and have a couple ideas for tomorrow and I might try the most recent OWH sketch as a warm up.  So, stay tuned for a new card post tomorrow...

Update:  After web browing for a while, I realized I just wasn't in the mood to finish the rest of the cowboy cards.  I saw a card by Lorie Homer that I liked and CASEd it, using stamps in my stash instead of the Stampin Up Doilies set, which I don't own.  Happy colors!  That's what I needed!

Card for first Father's Day

Thursday, June 6, 2013

Down to the wire again!  I had to get a card done for our son's first father's day and I was struggling for inspiration.  Then I ran across a card with the sweetest poem on it.  So, I've CASE'd the poem by Bobby Norman posted on blog.  Since our son isn't a suit and tie kind of guy, I found some clip art work boots and tiny sneakers, edited and layered them in Roxio Photosuite, printed and colored them with Copics.

Now, that's done and I'm off to start packing for vacation.  I thought about taking some crafting stuff, but that's not happening.  Too much other stuff to carry and probably won't have time anyway.  See you when I get back!

Transportation challenge

Saturday, June 1, 2013

The mid-week throwdown challenge at Operation Write Home this week is to create a transportation themed card.  That worked out fine forme because I had just pulled out a sheet of Club Scrap designer card stock that I've had forever, thinking it would make great "guy" cards.  I made two, butam just posting my favorite here:
It doesn't show well in the photo, but the airplane and black lines on the paper are thickly embossed and glossy.  So, all I did was add the ribbon and slide because anything more would have been too much.  Quickest card I ever made!

Then, I finally took some time to play with my new "Got S'Mores?" stamp set.  I tried to tell myself I didn't need it, but it was so cute and I thought many of the sentiments will work great on OWH cards,  so I ordered it.  No buyers remorse here!  Next to the card, I've shown the index sheet for the 4" x 6" set, which is made by Jaded Blossom.

I had such fun making this card, especially the graham cracker mat.  I used my ScorePal to make the cracker sections, stamped it with tiny dots using versamark ink, then debossed it with my Swiss Dots folder.   Of course coloring the s'more images was fun, too.  I did use a stamp from an old Stampin Up set to make the background print.  Makes me wish I was out camping and making real s'mores!

The last card is one I made a few days ago, using a digital stamp, because I need practice with my Copics.  It took me a while to color, and tested my patience (or lack thereof), but I finally got the strawberry shading to look a little realistic.  I used my favorite Swiss Dot embossing folder on the red mat, to mimic the seeds on the strawberry, and used the Swirls embossing folder on the brown, just because it made me think of thick swirly chocolate.  Do we notice a craving for sweets developing here?
